MAINTAINING A LAWN CAN REQUIRE MORE ATTENTION THAN A TWO YEAR OLD!

Dixie Green provides advanced care for a flourishing lawn!

Our backyards and green spaces may look simple, but each is a complex ecosystem all its own. To cultivate a beautiful, thriving, pest-free green space, it takes time, specialized equipment and materials, and expert ecosystem management.

Dixie’s Lawn Care Program has streamlined and optimized our approach to expert lawn care. Our veteran team boasts decades of experience working with Georgia green spaces, and consolidated the ecosystem management process into 7 visits or “rounds” per year. We tailor our Lawn Care Programs to suit the primary type of grass and vegetation for each project. In the Atlanta area there are 2 main groups of Turf grasses Warm Season and Cool Season outlined below.

WARM SEASON (BERMUDA AND ZOYSIA) PROGRAM

Round 1 (January – March)

  • Application includes Pre-emergent and Post-Emergent weed controls to aid in the prevention of Broadleaf weeds and Annual Crabgrass.
  • In addition, we apply high Potassium Fertilizer for root development.
  • Four types of Grassy and Broadleaf weed controls are applied as needed.

Round 2 (March – April)

  • Application of a high nitrogen fertilizer will help insure a quicker green – up.
  • Application of a light Potassium Fertilization to Enhance the Root Structure
  • Pre and Post Emergent weed controls will be applied on this application.
  • Four types of Grassy and Broadleaf weed controls are applied as needed

April and May are the best months for core aeration of warm season lawns.  PLEASE CALL OUR OFFICE FOR A PRICE QUOTE AND TO SCHEDULE THIS SERVICE.  (CORE AERATION AVAILABLE BASED ON TEMPERATURES)

Round 3 (May – June)

  • With the onset of warmer temperatures we will apply a granular controlled release fertilizer to enhance the color of your lawn.
  • Four types of Grassy and Broadleaf weed controls are also applied as needed.
  • Centipede lawns will receive a treatment of iron, the one micronutrient most likely to be deficient.  We combine iron and a low dose of fertilizer.

Round 4 (June – July)

  • To help all warm season lawns maintain their color and growth, we will apply a granular controlled release fertilizer.
  • Four types of Grassy and Broadleaf weed controls are applied as needed and as temperatures allow.
  • Proper Mowing heights will reduce weeds and improve density of turf. Increase mowing heights as temperatures rise.
  • During this time of year proper watering is the key to maintaining a green healthy lawn. Your lawn must receive a MINIMUM OF 1 INCH OF WATER PER WEEK from irrigation, rainfall or combination of the two.

Round 5 (September – October)

  • Heading into the end of summer, Dixie Green applies a granular controlled release fertilizer mixed to maintain the color and feed the roots of your turf.
  • Application of Pre-Emergent weed controls to aid in the prevention of winter annual weeds and grassy weeds from germinating in the spring.
  • Four types of Grassy and Broadleaf weed controls are applied as needed and as temperatures allow.
  • If temperatures are high keep your mowing height high.

Round 6 (October – November)

  • This application consists of Pre-Emergent weed controls to aid in the prevention of winter and spring annual weeds; and Post-Emergent weed control to eliminate Broadleaf weeds.

Round 7 (November – December)

  • This application consists of calcium and magnesium to maintain the PH balance of your soil. This application helps restore the neutral condition of your soil so your grass will grow better next spring.
  • Four types of Grassy and Broadleaf weed controls are applied as needed.
  • Application of Pre-Emergent to prevent various fall and winter weeds.  Potassium fertilizer to enhance the root structure so your grass grows stronger and thicker for Centipede Grass.

COOL SEASON (FESCUE) PROGRAM

Round 1 (January – March)

  • Dixie Green’s application consists of a high nitrogen fertilizer as well as both Pre-Emergent and Post-Emergent weed controls.
  • This treatment will enhance the color of your Fescue grass and aid in the prevention and control of Broadleaf weeds and Annual Crabgrass.

Round 2 (March – April)

  • This application provides your Fescue with the fertilizer and nutrients necessary to stay green and healthy.
  • Also, a second treatment of Pre- and Post- Emergent weed controls to help protect Fescue from summer annual weeds.

Round 3 (May – June)

  • As temperatures rise, so do the possibilities of summer stress and fungus attacks. At this time we apply a liquid application of iron and micronutrients. This helps to keep your Fescue lawn healthy into early summer, without building up excess nitrogen which can lead to Brown Patch Fungus.
  • Four types of Grassy and Broadleaf weed controls are applied as needed.

Round 4 (June – July)

  • This application consists of calcium and magnesium to maintain the PH balance of your soil. This application helps restore the neutral condition of your soil so your grass will grow better next spring.
  • A herbicide treatment may be needed.
  • Four types of Grassy and Broadleaf weed controls are applied as needed.
  • This treatment will help to prepare your Fescue grass for core aeration and seeding.
  • June / July is the most difficult time of year to maintain Fescue Grass due to summer related stress. Drought stress along with improper watering and mowing practices can cause damage to the turf. This is the time of year that additional fungicide application might be necessary to combat Brown Patch Fungus.

If you see brown circular patches, CALL OUR OFFICE TO SETUP AN INSPECTION AND QUOTE FOR FUNGICIDE APPLICATION.  Cut fescue lawns at the highest setting on your mower.  This will help lower the soil temperatures.

Round 5 (September – October)

  • Dixie Green’s application of balanced fertilizer will help your established Fescue grass to repair itself from damage caused by Summer Stress.
  • Weed controls can be damaging to young, newly germinated Fescue or to established Fescue suffering from Summer Stress. For these reasons, weed controls will not be used on turf that would be damaged by them.

September – November is the best time for Fescue Core Aeration and Seeding depending on air and soil temperatures.  PLEASE CALL OUR OFFICE FOR A QUOTE AND TO SCHEDULE THIS SERVICE.

 Round 6 (October – November)

  • This application consists of a high rate of fertilizer which will provide the nutrients needed by the developing new grass to mature over the winter months.
  • The fertilizer will help established Fescue to recover from Summer Stress.
  • Four types of Grassy and Broadleaf weed controls are used as needed on turf that is mature and healthy.

Round 7 (November – December)

  • This application consists of a high rate of fertilizer which provides the nutrients needed by the developing new grass to mature over the winter months.
  • Fertilizer to help established Fescue recover from the stresses of summer.
  • Four types of Grassy and Broadleaf weed controls are used as needed on turf that is mature and healthy.
